I Did The NYC Eye Contact Experiment - And It Was Amazing.
October 31, 2016
So, I have a challenge for you. Find a random stranger, sit in front of them, and make eye contact for AT LEAST one minute. I’ll warn you, it’s not as easy as it sounds. I know because that’s exactly what I did yesterday at The Eye Contact Experiment hosted by the organization, The Connection Movement.
When I first heard about this eye contact experiment, I was really intrigued, so I had to check it out. And I’m so glad I did. It may seem a little awkward to make prolonged eye contact with someone because we are conditioned from an early age not to stare, or show vulnerability. (Which is probably why my roommates were like, “WTF?” when I told them about the event.)
But after this experience, I can tell they don’t call themselves The Connection Movement for nothing. I was able to bond with the people I sat in front of on a much deeper level than I probably would have had I met them in a different setting. And, I even made a new friend in the process, who I’m still texting with today!
Needless to say, I’m definitely coming back the next time the Eye Contact Experiment is in New York. I really hope to see you there, too. Because it really is a can’t-miss experience.
