It’s official, guys - Congress has passed the bill to defund Planned Parenthood.
I must say that this is one of the most backwards decisions that the U.S. government has ever made.
Contrary to beliefs held by certain people, Planned Parenthood is not just an abortion clinic that gives out free contraception. Among other services, they also provide gynecological exams, breast cancer screenings, and even regular physical exams… And these services are provided either for free or at a very low cost.
By defunding Planned Parenthood, they are making it harder for so many people to get the healthcare that they need. A lot of times, people turn to Planned Parenthood because it is the only option they can afford.
By not having the option available, the government is basically saying “Screw you” to those who can’t afford to go see a doctor elsewhere. Why should anyone have to forgo seeking medical care because they don’t have money? That’s complete bull.
And, all morality aside, the decision to defund Planned Parenthood is a serious lapse in judgment on Congress’s part.
For a long time, the U.S. has been on a quest to lower the teenage pregnancy rate in this country. I’m not sure what Congress thinks will happen when teenage girls (who - let’s not kid ourselves - will still be having sex) will have a harder time getting birth control. But, I’m pretty sure a decrease in teenage pregnancy is not a likely effect. In fact, I’d be surprised if the amount of teen pregnancies didn’t skyrocket.
And it’s completely reasonable that an increase in the number of teenage moms will also mean an increase in the number of people on welfare. After all, these new teen moms are going to need to support their children, and most teenagers do not even make enough money to support themselves. But, ironically, these people that are voting to defund Planned Parenthood tend to be the same ones who complain about so many people being on welfare.
See how defunding Planned Parenthood really doesn’t make any sense?
So can we stop the madness, please? No? Wow. You’re something.
